Early Reading and Letter Formation Tools and Services

Letter Sound Correspondence Matching Activity

Your child can build phonemic awareness (learn letter sound correspondences needed for reading) by matching letters to their primary sounds. They can also finger trace letters to start building muscle memory for letter formation!

While most early learning resources focus on letter names, primary letter-sound correspondences are needed for reading. This resource includes primary consonant sounds and short vowel sounds (needed to read CVC words independently by the end of Kindergarten).

It incorporates developmentally appropriate, phonetically optimal visuals designed specifically to help early learners form letter-sound correspondences in a cognitively efficient manner.

What is a phonemically optimal visual? While an elephant is easily recognized and developmentally appropriate visual to learn the short e sound association, the word "elephant" is made up of 3 syllables (e-le-phant) and 7 sounds, making it difficult to isolate, remember and repeat the initial short e sound.

In contrast, "egg" is only 1 syllable and contains only 2 sounds, making it easier to isolate and remember the initial short e sound.

Even though "elephant" and "egg" are easily recognized by an early learner, "egg" is more phonemically optimal and cognitively efficient for learning the short e letter-sound correspondence. Since early learners are tasked with learning 26 upper case letters, 26 lower case letters and 26 primary sound correspondences, phonemically optimal visuals that are cognitively efficient allow more time for play and exploration!

Letter Formation (Early Writing) Tools

Your child can practice forming lower case letters, then upper case letters, with a writing utensil. Complete a Google Form (coming soon) for a customized tracing page to help your child learn primary letter sound correspondences and practice letter formation. To use, print and rainbow trace with colored pencils or place in a dry erase sleeve for repeated use.

K-2 Early Reading and Math Tutoring (Individual Sessions or for Pods of 2-6 Children at a discounted rate)

Early learning gaps can arise for a variety of reasons. Proactively addressing them can get early learners back on track quickly, reversing negative feedback loops about individual learning capacity that hinder motivation and academic engagement.

Reading intervention services include sharing report cards and test results from teachers and other educational services to specifically target identified learning goals, OR an independent assessment to identify and proactively address gaps in foundational reading skills. Check out the fun phonics crowns for engaging practice!
